IBC Event: Book Launch Of Mayuresh Didolkar’s ‘The Dark Road’ By Vivek Agnihotri    

Indic Book Club is proud to announce the launch of Mayuresh Didolkar's The Dark Road, a novel that reveals the fine contours of storytelling and gives readers the remarkable character, Prasanna Killedar. The Dark Road will be launched by award-winning filmmaker, writer, columnist and public speaker Vivek Agnihotri in Mumbai.

About the book:

In his second novel, Mayur, an avid marathoner, has revealed immense stamina, focus and patience for writing characters. Prasanna Killedar rises as a complete hero of his craft. Mayur's focus on his characters is strong, steady and linear, on the uneven and tricky paths and various ups and downs of events. He approaches words with light feet, usually, landing toes first on steep marks. Mayur, in Killedar, reaches the finish in immaculate control.

There are many aspects that make Mayuresh's The Dark Road. Here are quick and solid three -- shared by Columbus State University associate chair and professor of communication Ramesh N Rao, and authors Saiswaroopa Iyer and Vineet Aman Aggarwal.

According to Professor Rao, Mayur has “the potential to build a vast fan club if he has Prasanna Killedar go on other intrepid hunts to find the bad guys and the wicked girls". In his review published in Creative India, he says: "First things first: welcome, Prasanna Killedar, to the pantheon of female Indian heroes. Retired assistant commissioner of police, Prasanna Killedar, now a private eye, gets a call from one of her police colleagues. There is a murder of a young woman, Sanjyot Pathak, away from town, in the hills, where she was camping alone. She is a runner. The police are in a hurry to find the killer because Siddharth Pandit, the mover and shaker in town, and a friend and mentor of Sanjyot, wants the police to track down the killer, dead or alive."

Author Saiswaroopa Iyer reveals a noteworthy aspect in Mayur's work. "The backdrop of the armed Naxal movement is a crucial part of the mystery. Irrespective of the wing of politics that the reader subscribes to, the story artfully builds a realistic picture of such movements. Some might find a dystopian undertone to this part of the narrative, but the author is firmly committed to the genre the book belongs to and never disappoints in terms of suspense." Saiswaroopa wonders what its cinematic adaptation would be like.

Author Vineet Aggarwal describes detective Prasanna Killedar as “a perfect modern blend of characters like Perry Mason and Miss Marple.” In his review of the novel, Vineet says, "The fast pace and appropriately placed twists make The Dark Road a worthy example of the crime thriller genre. The multiple stakeholders from the police fraternity, to the misguided youth with strong anti-establishment agenda, to the troubled young girl who is the murder victim, to the interesting relationship between Siddhu and his man Friday Sharman, all keep you guessing till the end."
