Taking the word ‘monolithic’ to an unnatural scale, these caves contain multi-storied temples, life sized figurines, rock-cut bridges and many sculptures – all carved by hand, using a hammer and chisel, out of a hill.
Swarajya invites you to be a part of this three-day eye-opening journey, which takes you into one of the greatest and most complex structures ever made by man.
The tour will cover the best of Ellora’s many caves – the famous Kailashnath temple, and the Rameshwar and Dhumar Lena caves, which depict some of the masterpieces of their times.
We will also visit some of Aurangabad’s local highlights including the Bibi Ka Maqbara, along with the one of India’s mightiest forts, the Devagiri fort. If time permits, we will also visit the Chatrapati Shivaji Museum.
This is an expert-led tour for a small group. Swarajya columnist and heritage expert Shefali Vaidya is the main curator and guide – she will accompany the group through the tour.
Details about the trip can be found here.
