Join us next month, from 14 to 16 February, on a weekend to Belur ad Helebidu to explore the Hoysala architecture on this special heritage experience tour!
The saddest thing about Belur and Halebidu is that not enough Indians come here.
These two sites served as the capital of the Hoysalas, a dynasty we learn very little about. For over 250 years the destiny of south India was influenced, if not decided, from these places.
In 1336, nearly all native kingdoms of South India except the Hoysalas had been defeated by Turkic invaders beginning with Malik Kafur. In a few years the last of the Hoysalas too had been killed in battle with the Madurai sultanate. From their ashes rose the mighty Vijayanagar.
But all that's a story for another day.
For now, we would like you to join us next month for our heritage tour to Belur and Halebidu. The Hoysalas may have been erased but their glorious temples remain.
You will visit both Belur and Halebidu. We’ll see the best of Hoysala architecture at Hoysaleshwara, Kedareshwara, and the most intricately done Lakshmi Devi temple at Doddagaddavali and more!
A scholar who has spent decades studying the Hoysalas will accompany you. This trip will be on a weekend so you don't have to skip office after all!
Please write to us at heritage@swarajyamag.com for any questions and let us know if you're coming. It would be great to have you on the trip.
