A senior official from the U.S. administration has told Reuters that India could be exposed to a ‘great risk’ if New Delhi significantly increases its oil imports from Russia.
“U.S. has no objection to India buying Russian oil provided it buys it at discount, without significantly increasing from previous years,” a source in the know of developments informed the international news agency.
The spokesperson claimed that the U.S. State Department is cognisant of the discussions between India and Russia regarding the purchase of oil.
U.S. is reportedly coordinating with India and the other European countries to alleviate the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the energy markets as well.
“As long as they (India) are compliant with sanctions and not significantly raising purchases, we (U.S.) are okay,” the individual was further quoted in the aforementioned report.
The U.S. is reportedly set to further increase the sanctions on Moscow and it has explicitly appealed every country to comply with the same.
