Army Court Martial Awards Soldier 10-Year Jail Term For Passing Secret Information To Pakistani Spy

An Army Court Martial has taken strict action against a soldier who was caught passing secret information to a Pakistan embassy staffer in the national capital regarding military activities along the northern borders.

The soldier has been sentenced to over 10 years in jail.

According to defence officials cited by news agency ANI, the soldier who was caught sending secret information to a Pakistani spy has been given a jail sentence of 10 years and 10 months by the court martial presided over by an officer.

The soldier had been in contact with a Pakistani national named Abid Husain, also known as Naik Abid, who worked at the High Commission for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the Indian national capital.

The soldier also tried to pass on information related to the vehicles of the formation along with the list of movement of vehicles in view of the Covid lockdown.

According to ANI report, the soldier had access to trivial information only.

The Army has a zero tolerance policy for such actions and has given the guilty person an exemplary punishment, according to sources cited by ANI.

The punishment awarded by the court martial to the soldier would be subject to confirmation by the competent senior authorities.
