Terrorists detonated an explosive device, killing five Army personnel in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The incident prompted a suspension of mobile internet services in Rajouri.

During a joint operation, security forces cordoned off a group of terrorists in the Kandi area of Kotranka sub-division and an encounter began at 8 am, according to a statement released by Army PRO Lt Colonel Devender Anand.

The Indian Army columns have been relentlessly conducting intelligence-based operations to flush out the group responsible for an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in Jammu region.

The joint operation was initiated on 3 May in the Kandi Forest of the Rajouri Sector upon receiving information about the presence of terrorists.

Hiding terrorists fired at approaching forces, starting an encounter, the Army said.

Terrorist activity in the area is not uncommon. Notably, two terrorists were contacted by security forces shortly after the killing of four soldiers in an attack on an Army camp at Pargal in the Budhal area in August of last year.

The terrorists evaded capture and fled the Kesari Top area, utilising the dense forests to their advantage.
