Ahmedabad Metro
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) last week launched train trial runs (testing) on Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1’s 18.522 km north-south line.
The trail run was staged between on Friday (Feb 18) between the Gyaspur depot and Jivraj Park station.
Lucknow- based Research Design and Standards Organisation will conduct trails after the pre-trail runs.
Gyaspur-Jivraj Park stretch is about 2km and has two stations, the APMC Vasna station, from where trains will begin their services. This is part of the north-south corridor(Line 2), from APMC Vasna to Motera, which is 18.87km with 15 stations and is completely elevated
39.26 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1 project comprises of two lines and 32 stations. It is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 10,773 crore.
20.73 km Line-1 (East-West or Blue Line) connects Vastral Gam and Thaltej Gam with 17 stations. It has a 6.5-km underground section with four underground stations. A 6 km stretch of Line-1 between Apparel Park and Vastral Gam is already operational since March 2019.
18.87km Line 2 (North-South corridor or Red Line from APMC Vasna to Motera, with 15 stations.
Laying of tracks and signal installation is going on in the East-West line. A vital Metro bridge over Sabarmati in this line was complete in Nov 2021. The bridge will cross the river and immediately descend as an underground line.
Phase 2 Of Ahmedabad Metro
In Feb 2019, the Union Government approved 28.254 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project comprising of 2 corridors at a total estimated cost of Rs. 5384.17 crores. Its foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2019.
Under the Phase 2 of Ahmedabad Metro involves a north extension of Line-2 from Motera Station to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Construction work commenced in Feb 2021.
