The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has enlisted Toshiba Water Solutions Private Limited (Toshiba Water), to design, upgrade, rehabilitate, operate, and maintain three Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and to upgrade and rehabilitate five other STPs in Bengaluru.
The agency is a subsidiary of Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation (TISS).
As per The Hindu, Toshiba Water will provide upgradation, rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance services for — Kadubeesanahalli STP, Mylasandra STP, and Doddabele STP.
Additionally, the agency will handle the upgradation and rehabilitation of —
Yallamallappachetty STP, which has a treatment capacity of 15,000 m³ per day,
Ulsoor STP with a capacity of 20,000 m³ per day,
Bellandur STP with a capacity of 90,000 m³,
Rajacanal STP with a capacity of 40,000 m³
Hiroaki Kobayashi, Chairperson and Managing Director of Toshiba Water, stated, "After securing the contract for T.K. Halli Water Treatment Plant in 2020, these are our second set of contracts with BWSSB", reports Business Standard.
He added, “These orders involve upgradation, rehabilitation, including capacity augmentation, and operation and maintenance services for three sewage treatment plants, as well as upgradation and rehabilitation for five STPs in Bengaluru".
According to a statement by Toshiba Water, Bengaluru, known as the Silicon Valley of India, includes the Bengaluru core area, eight Urban Local Bodies, and 110 surrounding villages.
The rapid industrial development has resulted in a significant increase in the city's population and an unprecedented expansion of its urban area.
Therefore, the company emphasised the urgent need to enhance the sanitation and water environment of these villages and improve the quality of effluents.
