Skoda's inaugural electric vehicle, Enyaq.
Even as Vietnamese automaker, VinFast, has started work on its first integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, another leading carmaker Skoda Auto, will begin assembling EVs in India latest by 2027.
The company is testing its inaugural electric vehicle, the Enyaq iV, for possible launch in Indian market this year. Earlier this month, the company showcased the model at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi.
"There are various scenarios depending on the regulation but we will probably start with (import of) CBU (completely built unit)... we think that something should come even in 2024," SkodaAuto India brand director Petr Janeba, told PTI.
The all-electric Enyaq is the foundation of Skoda's EV strategy globally.
In 2023, it emerged as the best-selling electric vehicle in both the Czech domestic market and Slovakia. Additionally, it secured a spot among the top five best-sellers in several European nations, including Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands.
With deliveries of the Enyaq family surging by over 50 per cent in 2023, reaching a total of 81,700 units, Skoda's electrification strategy has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness.
