The long-awaited Dehradun metro project, expanding to Haridwar and Rishikesh, is about to begin its survey phase. The comprehensive survey is expected to pave the way for enhanced inter-city connectivity between the three significant towns of Uttarakhand.
IG Drones, a leading drone technology and analytics company, has secured the contract for the first phase of the project. Their task involves conducting a topographical survey to compile a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Personalised Rapid Transit corridor (PRT) within Dehradun city.
The envisioned PRT corridor is slated to connect key points from Panditwari to the Railway Station, Clement Town to Balliwala, and Gandhi Park to IT Park.
In June 2020, the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) gave the green light to the 73 km Dehradun–Haridwar–Rishikesh Metro Rail corridor in Uttarakhand. The projected cost for this ambitious initiative is estimated at Rs 40,150 crore. The approval was a strategic decision made during a UMTA meeting chaired by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
Presenting the Budget 2023, Finance Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal announced a special allocation of Rs 101 crore for metro service in the state capital city.
The Dehradun metro project marks a crucial milestone, promising improved transportation infrastructure and connectivity for the residents of Uttarakhand.
