The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has issued tenders for the construction of pedestrian pathways, extra U-turns, and bus bays at Hero Honda Chowk and IFFCO Chowk — to revamp the two highly congested intersections within the city.
Officials said the move will ease traffic and ensure pedestrian safety in the future.
These intersections serve as crucial points along National Highway (NH)-8 and experience significant traffic congestion on a daily basis.
Due to the absence of pedestrian crossings and sidewalks, unregulated traffic flow, and undefined pickup and drop points for public transport, several accidents are reported here frequently.
GMDA executive engineer RK Mittal said tenders have been floated for redesigning the two intersections and work will be completed in six months after tenders are finalised.
The plan aims to provide dedicated lanes for walkers, pickup and drop points for cabs, autos and buses and also the creation of signage to ensure safety provisions for the pedestrian movements at IFFCO Chowk.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be over Rs 2 crore for the two intersections, ensuring smoother transportation in the area.
In addition to constructing slip roads, the GMDA will prioritise the establishment of a pedestrian pathway, enabling pedestrians to cross the road conveniently and safely.
GMDA officials said they had started a traffic trial at IFFCO Chowk crossing a couple of months back to ensure safe movement and convenience for people waiting for transportation.
This included creation of a pedestrian footpath, zebra crossings, traffic signals, and benches for commuters.
Mittal said the experiment at IFFCO Chowk has been successful and they are now going to make permanent changes at the intersection to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and safety of pedestrians.
