Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 10-Lane Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway and launch the works for the four-lane, access-controlled Mysuru-Kushalnagar highway in the second or third week of March, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has confirmed.

“Along with formal inauguration of the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, the Prime Minister will launch the works of the four-lane Mysuru-Kushalnagar highway that will be built at a cost of Rs. 3,500 crore. This Kushalnagar highway will link the Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway and further reduce the travel time from Madikeri to Bengaluru,” Simha said while addressing the media on Tuesday.

The four-lane 93-km Srirangapatna-Guddehosur National Highway will run parallel to the existing NH-275 and be constructed in two packages — from Srirangapatna to Periyapatna and Periyapatna to Guddehosur. The highway will start from Bramhapura between Paschimavahini and Naguvanahalli near Srirangapatna and end at Anekadu near Kushalnagar. It will link Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway.

The expanded highway will provide smooth connectivity and seamless travel from Bengaluru to Kushalnagar. Travellers will benefit immensely as the existing National Highway 275 has already reached its saturation point.

Land acquisition is pending in a few stretches around Mysuru, Hunsur, Periyapatna and Kushalnagar Taluks. The proposed highway will pass through 57 canals, 11 lakes and other water bodies that come under the administration of the state irrigation department.

Simha expressed confidence that the land acquisition process for the proposed highway will be complete by March 5, ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony for the road construction that will be taken up by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Union Ministry Of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has already allocated Rs. 909.86 crores for the four-lane road with a paved shoulder from Mysuru to the Kushalnagar section of National Highway (NH)-275 near Guddehosur at the start of Kushalnagar bypass in Mysuru district.

NHAI will invite bids for the proposed highway in the third week of February.

Simha also reiterated that the Mysuru-Bengaluru expressway would be named ‘Kaveri Expressway’.
