Plans are underway to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Pune by connecting the under-construction Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) Road with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently seeking a consultant to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) of this initiative.

An official tender has also been circulated to appoint a consultant for the given issue, Indian Express reports.

Accordingly, commuters will now be able to reach Worli from Pune and vice-versa by avoiding any sort of traffic. Their overall travel time will reduce by over an hour as well.

Also, there are plans to connect MTHL to National Highway (NH) 17 that will go towards Bengaluru.

The MTHL project aims to connect Mumbai's Sewri to Chirle in Navi Mumbai through a 21.8-kilometer long bridge over the sea. The MMRDA is executing this project with an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore.
