Advancing with the expansion plans for the metro network in the National Capital Region, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has provided the detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed 11.56 km Metro connection in the Noida-Greater Noida region.
This proposed link will stretch from the Botanical Garden Metro station, part of Delhi Metro's Blue Line, to the Sector-142 station on Noida Metro's Aqua Line.
The objective is to establish a direct link between Greater Noida and the Delhi Metro by adding a branch to the existing Blue Line, according to officials.
At present, the connection between Greater Noida and Noida to the Delhi Metro is facilitated through the 29.7 km Aqua Line corridor of Noida Metro. However, the integration with Delhi Metro's Blue Line is not smooth.
The introduction of the new 11.56 km link will not only ensure a smooth connection but will also bring the Metro closer to the Greenfield Noida International Airport in Jewar.
Lokesh M, the managing director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) and CEO of Noida authority, stated, “The DMRC has completed the DPR of this important link and submitted it to us for further study after we released them the fee of Rs 20 lakh for preparing the DPR. We will study the DPR and then send it to the Uttar Pradesh government for approval. Once approved, we will start work on this crucial Metro corridor,”
As per the DPR, it is projected to have a minimum cost of Rs 2,254.35 crore.
At present, the Botanical Garden station holds the distinction of being the first interchange station in the NCR, providing a connection between the Blue Line (Noida City Centre and Dwarka Sector 21) and the Magenta line (Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden).
Anup Chandra Pandey, the then chairman of the Greater Noida authority, had ordered the Noida metro to speed up the feasibility study before proceeding with the DPR.
In response, the NMRC initially created the feasibility report and then engaged DMRC to compile the DPR, according to officials.
Additionally, as per recent reports, Noida authority is also working on a new alignment for metro link between the Delhi Metro and Greater Noida West.
