The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has announced its plans to begin purchasing land along the Yamuna Expressway from farmers starting 15 April this year.
The purpose of this land acquisition is to allocate the land to potential investors who intend to establish their industrial units in the vicinity of the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, as per a report by Hindustan Times.
YEIDA has released a public notification stating that landowners have a 15-day window until 14 April to file any objections they may have regarding the land acquisition.
These objections can be filed at the office of the Additional Chief Executive Officer in Sector Omega-1 of Greater Noida.
YEIDA CEO, Arun Vir Singh stated, “We will start buying the land from land owners who want to sell their land for the planned development around the airport. We will follow the laid down procedures and purchase the land required for the development.”
The authority has two ways to procure the land for development.
It can implement the 2013 Land Act and acquire the land, however, the process takes a longer time and involves several procedures.
The other way — also the easier way — involved direct purchase of the land from the farmers willing to sell it.
Singh added, “By purchasing land directly from farmers, we can procure the land more easily and ready it for the required purposes.”
The officials said farmers are ready to sell their land because they are offering a rate of Rs 3,100 per square metre besides rehabilitation benefits.
The authority is planning to purchase land in 10 nearby villages — including Maqsudpur, Rabupura, Birampur, Tirthali, Murad Garhi, Kureb, and Myana, among others — for the proposed developments in different sectors.
This includes development of Electronic City in Sector-10, Film City in Sector-21, Medical Device Park in Sector-28, Apparel Park in Sector-29, and commercial and industrial development in Sector-32.
Although the authority has acquired land in these sectors before, they still need to purchase some patches of land from local farmers to complete the development work.
According to Singh, they are working on acquiring the remaining land to move forward with these projects.
The construction phase of the Noida International Airport in Jewar is nearing completion.
The first phase of development will be completed by 30 September, 2023 and the facility, developed as the country's largest airport, is expected to start functioning by 2024.
The first phase spread over 1,334 hectares will have one runway, cargo hub along with a terminal that will cater to domestic and international passengers.
