Infrastructure
Close to 24 km of Pune Metro network is now operational.
The Maha Metro is planning to conduct preliminary trials of rakes on the Bund Garden-Ramwadi elevated stretch by the end of the month.
The civil works of the viaduct and signaling have reached their final stage on this section, making it ready for testing.
The Bund Garden-Ramwadi stretch is the last section of the Vanaz to Ramwadi Metro route, also known as the Aqua Line, that is yet to be opened for commuters.
Once this section is operational, the entire 15.7 km route will be available for public use.
After the successful launch of two key stretches in August, Maha Metro is determined to complete the remaining work on two metro corridors by the end of this year.
“Plans are afoot to finish all the works till Ramwadi by November. We have already received feedback from commuters to extend the Metro service till Nagar Road connecting key areas like Yerawada and Kalyaninagar to the city’s central parts,” a Maha Metro official stated.
Pune's Growing Metro Network
Pune Metro Rail Project comprises of two corridors, namely the north-south corridor (Purple line) and the east-west corridor (Aqua line), spanning a total length of 33 km with 30 stations.
The Aqua line, currently operational between Vanaz and Ruby Hall is entirely elevated.
This Metro line will further serve areas like Yerawada, Kalyaninagar, and parts of Nagar Road, providing convenient transportation for those traveling to the eastern parts of the city.
Efforts to complete the remaining section of the project have been accelerated. The viaduct from Bund Garden to Ramwadi is now ready, and work is underway to install overhead traction and signaling at the stations.
According to the Maha Metro official, “We are looking forward to starting the testing of track and will begin the trials of rakes by September-end. The rakes will run in phases. We will ply the train on the stretches where work is over. The tests and trials will continue in October. These will be preliminary tests to check the alignment of viaduct, curves, gradients and other technical details."
Further, the remaining stretch of the purple line — the Civil Court to Swargate Metro section — is expected to be ready by December.
Apart from the existing network, a Line-3 in the city is also undertaken by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority and the Tata-Siemens partnership.
The 23 km, fully elevated network will connect the Hinjawadi IT park and several newly-developing areas and will serve a significant number of Pune employees for daily commute.
