Rail Infra Boost: President Murmu To Flag Off Two Train Services In Northeast

Enhancing rail connectivity in Northeast region, President Droupadi Murmu will flag off the extended run of Guwahati-Kolkata Express up to Agartala.

President Murmu will also launch the extension of Agartala-Jiribam Jan Shatabdi Express up to Khongsang in Manipur on 13 October.

Jan Shatabdi train travel time will be around six hours covering a distance of 300 kms against about 15 hours travel by the road.


The extended service of Guwahati-Kolkata Express will provide additional connectivity to Kolkata from Agartala.

This train will also serve the people of Barak valley districts of Assam and act as an intercity service between Guwahati and Agartala.

There is a heavy demand of connecting Agartala to Guwahati and other states. Passengers travelling to Agartala from Guwahati can board this train in the evening and reach Agartala in the morning hours.

With the extension of Jan Shatabdi service upto the newly constructed Khongsang station in Manipur, people of the vast section of Manipur will get the train service for the first time.

Equipped with modern vistadome LHB coaches, the Jan Shatabdi service will provide breathtaking views of the hills and mountains during the journey.


The service is expected to boost trade, tourism and transportation in these two states in the Northeast region.
