Encouraging employees to come up with innovative ideas for betterment of railway operation, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Indian Railways has witnessed major positive changes in the last few years.

There have been modernisation efforts in infrastructure and assets, passenger and goods train services, he said while inspecting the Northern Railway Electric Locomotive Maintenance Depot at Khanalampura, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

This locomotive, the highest ever produced in India, has the latest technology for navigation.

With a speed potential of 120 Kmph, the 12000 HP electric loco is crucial for the Railways for increased freight movement.

The Maintenance Depot, a state-of-the-art facility has been set up under the Joint Venture (JV) module. This will be involved in maintenance of electric locos, which are mainly used to pull long haul freight trains carrying heavy loads by the Railways.


The Depot also has a Training School for training of loco pilots. It is a sustainable property having effluent and sewage treatment plants, rain water harvesting, day light panels for natural light and 100 per cent LED usage.

Maintaining that large scale digitisation in every sector is enabling ease in running day to day matters, the Railway Minister said it is creating efficient passenger and freight business modules.

He enthused the officers to share their ideas and found them to be used innovatively for the betterment of Railways in India.
