Faced with cattle-hit incidents on regular basis, Northern Railway has identified 139 vulnerable spots to be fenced off in its zone.

Fencing alongside of railway tracks will be provided to prevent cattle runovers at vulnerable locations and 139 vulnerable locations have already been identified to provide fencing, said Northern Railway General Manager Shobhan Chaudhury after a review meeting with the departmental heads and Divisional Railway Managers of the zone.

Out of 139 locations 22 are such spots where cattle-hit type of accidents took place in the last 10 years.Northern Railways has issued instructions to all the divisions to expedite the works related with mobility enhancement and conducting drives to check the progress.

Deliberations were held on keeping focus on mobility enhancement and other developmental infrastructure works and freight loading in the review meeting.

Northern Railway has also claimed to have maintained a good record of punctuality and continued to emphasise on punctual running of trains.


Chaudhury said that, whenever necessary and required, the concerned staff should be counselled and trained.

In order to prevent derailment, he said the monitoring of rail fractures and rail welds should be done extensively and no error should be left.

Emphasising upon minimising the human failure in train operation, he instructed the department heads and DRMs, to maintain the punctuality and keep pace for freight loading with safety as priority.

The General Manager also took stock of progress of work related with raising of speed from 130 kmph to 160 kmph on New Delhi-Howrah and New Delhi-Mumbai route.

He said Northern Railway is committed to provide safe, smooth and efficient services to its customers.
