Smart Project Awards
The seventh Smart Urbanation event was held on Friday (26 August) at Mumbai.
The Smart Urbanation 2022 event, organised by the Smart Cities Council India, witnessed the coming together of all stakeholders of the Smart Cities Mission including policy makers, municipal authorities and urban local bodies (ULBs), technology and service providers, and academicians among others.
During the event, Smart Project Awards 2022, that recognises pioneering projects, ideas and strategies making Indian cities more liveable, sustainable and economically viable, were also distributed to municipal corporations and Smart City CEOs.
In the 'Smart Water' category, Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) and Agra (Uttar Pradesh) were awarded while Pimpri (Maharashtra) and Tumakuru (Karnataka) bagged the awards in 'Smart Energy' category.
The winners of the 'Smart Solid Waste Management' category were Varanasi (UP) and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) while Belagavi (Karnataka) bagged awards in 'Inclusive Cities' and 'Tech Implementation' categories.
In the 'Pandemic Recovery' category, Nagpur and Nashik (both in Maharashtra) bagged the awards while Vadodara (Gujarat) won in the 'Financial Planning' category.
For 'Safety and Security', Pune (Maharashtra) got the award while Belagavi (Karnataka) and Pimpri (Maharashtra) won in the 'Citizen Engagement' category.
Further, 'Most Popular CEOs' award was given to Thane Smart City CEO Sandeep Malvi and Pimpri Chinchwad CEO Rajesh Patil.
Notably, India’s Smart Cities Mission completed seven years on 25 June 2022. Under this initiative, the Centre committed an amount of Rs 480 billion for 100 cities, to be disbursed over the span of five years, with a matching equivalent amount to be released by the states.
The Centre has so far released a total of Rs 284.14 billion, of which 83 per cent has been utilised.
