Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL), the infrastructure and construction arm of the Tata group, has selected to undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) selected Tata Projects Ltd among the three shortlisted teams with xperience in the design, procurement, and construction of large infrastructure projects.

Tata Projects will construct the terminal, runway, airside infrastructure, roads, utilities, landside facilities and other ancillary buildings at Noida International Airport.

Tata Projects is currently executing several infrastructure projects including the new Parliament Building, Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, multiple stretches of Dedicated Freight Corridors, and Metro Rail Lines across various cities including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.

Tata Projects had earlier constructed the new terminal building of Prayagraj Airport within a period of 11 months, which is one of the fastest constructed airport terminals in the country.

Vinayak Pai, CEO and MD Designate, Tata Projects Ltd, said, “We are proud to be entrusted the EPC works for the greenfield Noida International Airport at Jewar. Tata Projects will work closely with YIAPL to deliver India’s most advanced and environment friendly airport on time. We shall deploy the latest technologies in its construction, while meeting the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.”

Noida International Airport To Be Operational By Sep 2024

Swiss firm Zurich International AG, which was awarded the contract to build and operate the Noida, has announced that it will make the greenfield airport operational by September 29, 2024.

In Apr 2021, YIAPL initiated the tendering process by inviting bids for two packages - one for constructing a 90,000 sq metre terminal building and another for airside, landside and associated works. Three companies- Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Tata Projects (TPL) and Shapoorji Pallonji (SP)- participated in the bidding process.

The bids were opened in March this year, and the three firms were evaluated under the quality and cost-based selection criteria that are being followed for the award of the contract.

Boundary Wall And Levelling Work Nearing Completion

YIAPL commenced the groundwork on the airport soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this project in Nov 2021. YIAPL has so far completed the construction of 9km of the 17km-long boundary wall around 1,334 hectares of land on which the greenfield is being developed. The ground has also been completely levelled.

The airport, spread over an area of 1334 hectares, will have a single runway in phase I and will be capable of handling twelve million passengers annually. The first runway will be 3,900m-long and 45m-wide. The airport will start operations initially only with one runway. There will be three taxiways to facilitate the passengers’ commute at this facility.

The airport will be strategically located at about 72 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi; about 52 km from Noida, about 130 km from Agra and about 90 km from Multi-Modal Logistics Hub at Dadri.

The new airport would provide the national capital region (NCR) with a second facility after Indira Gandhi International Airport. This would support the decongestion of IGI Airport which is soon expected to reach its maximum capacity.
