Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has initiated a survey in stations to assess the safety and convenience of female passengers, as well as to increase overall ridership.
The survey, which began two weeks ago and will continue for at least another month, involves asking female passengers a range of questions. These questions cover topics such as the safety of travelling in trains and whether they have experienced any harassment in the trains or station premises.
CMRL officials have set a target of surveying approximately 30,000 women. As of now, they have collected around 1,500 samples.
The goal is to ensure that women feel safe while using the trains. The feedback from working professionals and students, who are among the regular commuters, will help bridge any gaps and encourage more people to choose the metro as their preferred mode of transportation.
The survey aims to determine if the separate coaches for women in Metro trains are clearly designated and whether men are using these coaches.
After conducting the survey, we will develop a plan and implement necessary changes and improvements based on the findings.
