108 Metre Tall Lord Ram Statue Coming Up In Ayodhya; CM Yogi Adityanath To Launch Project On Diwali Eve

A 108 metre tall Lord Ram statue is set to come up in the temple town of Ayodhya and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to lay the foundation for the same on Diwali eve this year.

The project to erect a Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya had been announced earlier by the state government and at the time it was expected to be a 100 metre statue. However, the height of the same has been extended to 108 metres as the figure 108 is said to be auspicious in Hindu beliefs.

The foundation for the project is expected to be laid on 6 November coinciding with the conduct of ‘Deepotsav’ on the eve of Diwali. The state government had last year, while announcing its intention to build the statue, sought funds from private companies under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) category.

A state government official has stated that the cost for the project would work out to approximately Rs 50 crore and the structure would include facilities like a museum, art gallery, theatre among others.

The building of the statue is part of a larger initiative by the state government in developing a ‘New Ayodhya’ whereby all the modern amenities and facilities would be provided thus helping boost tourism in the temple town which is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram.
