Monsoon might be slightly ahead of schedule this year if the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast holds. The southwest monsoon, according to the IMD, is expected to hit Kerala in the next 24 hours - three days ahead of its normal onset date.
Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, has also said that conditions for the onset of the monsoon have been favourable. ANI reports quote IMD spokesperson as saying, "During next 24 hours, southwest monsoon (is) likely to advance. Situations favourable for further advancement into southeast Arabian Sea and parts of central Arabian Sea, parts of Kerala, south and interior Karnataka, parts of Tamil Nadu and Bay of Bengal"
Apart from parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Gujarat too is expected to receive some rainfall in the next 2-3 days, a much needed respite from the summer. According to the IMD, Punjab and Haryana should also see slight rainfall bringing down the temperature across north India.
