Actor Arun Govil, best known for playing Lord Ram in the Ramayan TV series, has joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday (18 March) at the party office in Delhi.
The development was made public by the official Twitter handle of the BJP.
Govil had gracefully played the role of Lord Ram on Ramanand Sagar's hit 1987 series "Ramayan". The immense popularity of the TV series based on Valmiki Ramayan and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas had made actors Govil, Deepika Chikhalia, who plays Sita, and Sunil Lahri, who portrayed Lakshman, known names in every household.
Last year the re-run of the epic TV series had broken multiple television viewership records. It became the most viewed show in the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) segment ever since it started airing on DD National from 28 March last year.
As per a report by Moneycontrol, the episode which aired from 9 PM on 29 March became the highest viewed in the Hindi GEC segment since 2015. Fifty-one million viewers tuned in to watch the episode.
Episode one on the first day got 38 million viewers which increased to 45 million for the evening slot. The next day the viewership increased to 40 million in the morning to 51 million at night. Thus the show received a total of 91 million views in just one day.
