Union Home Minister Amit Shah
Amid the uncertainty in Afghanistan after Taliban takeover, the Union Minister Amit Shah led Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is said to have taken the stance that no Afghan national living in India will be asked to leave the country without its approval, reports Times of India.
The MHA is said to have decided that the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) will not ask any Afghan national to leave and that all such cases will be referred to the MHA by the FRRO.
The decision by MHA comes about a fortnight after the Taliban's forces took over the helm of affairs in Afghanistan after being out of regime for over two decades when it was engaged in a war against the United States (US) led forces.
This gains significance as several Afghan nationals, feeling threatened or facing the fear of persecution at the hands of the Taliban, have expressed the desire to stay in India.
