After China Scrubs Off South Park Due to Its Criticism Of Communist Party, The Creators Respond In Their Own Style

Reacting to the unconfirmed ban on the animated series ‘South Park’ from Chinese internet, along with removal or shut down of the videos, mentions, and discussion forums associated with the series, the creators have issued an “apology” to China, reported Business Insider.

The satirical statement was shared on Monday (7 October) from the official twitter handle of ‘South Park’ which seems to have come in response to a report by The Hollywood Reporter informing about the ban.

The tweet read ,“Official apology to China from Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

‘Like the NBA, we welcome the Chinese censors into our homes and into our hearts. We too love money more than freedom and democracy. Xi doesn't look just like Winnie the Pooh at all. Tune into our 300th episode this Wednesday at 10! Long live the Great Communist Party of China! May this autumn’s sorghum harvest be bountiful! We good now China?’”

The show’s most recent episode ‘Band In China’ mocked the country’s censorship on Winnie the Pooh imagery which has become a symbol of resistance to the country’s Communist Party and its leader Xi Jinping. Additionally, it must be noted that the Disney movie ‘Christopher Robin’ was not screened in China last year.

The statement from the creators was also a reference to the NBA’s apology to China after Houston Rocket’s general manager tweeted in solidarity with Hong Kong protesters.
