Days after Pakistan arrested the Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed over charges of terror financing, #ISupporrHafizSaeed was observed to be trending in Pakistan on Friday (19 July), reports Asian News International (ANI).
The trend saw support pouring in from Pakistani citizens, including prominent theatre artist Hamza Ali Abbasi. The development happened after Saeed was sent off to a seven-day judicial remand on 17 July.
It should be noted that Saeed's arrest is being seen by many as an attempt to circumvent being black-listed by the Paris headquartered Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which would further restrict the flow of funds to the ailing and cash-strapped economy of Pakistan. Pakistan is already in the grey list of the FATF.
Moreover, the move is also being viewed as an attempt from Pakistan's end to improve relations with the United States ahead of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan's visit to Washington. Washington alongside India has for long sought justice for the 26/11 attacks which were masterminded by Hafiz Saeed.
