Controversial businessman Robert Vadra has sparked speculation about a possible entry into politics while Enforcement Directorate (ED) continues proceedings against him for alleged money laundering.
Vadra’s wife Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has recently been the made the Congress general secretary and is also the in charge of Uttar Pradesh East for the Lok Sabha polls.
Incidentally, despite her increasing political role Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has openly supported her husband during various proceedings by investigative agencies.
In a Facebook Post on Sunday (24 February), Vadra accused the current government of maligning him and listed out various charitable initiatives he claims to have embarked upon.
After mentioning hours long interrogations by ED, Vadra asserted his innocence. He said that, “The years and months I spent campaigning and working in different parts of the country, especially in UP gave me a feeling to do more for the people...all these years of experience and learning cannot just be wasted and should be put to better use”.
He ended the post by stating, “once all these accusations and allegations are over, I feel I should dedicate a larger role in serving the people”.
This statement has sparked speculation of him planning a political entry which by his own admission would be put on hold until the charges against him are dropped.
Amidst this development, a Delhi court has directed the ED to provide copies of seized documents to Vadra. ED has been interrogating him using the seized papers.
