Andhra Pradesh will soon have a world-class command centre to deal with everything from natural disasters to road accidents, says AP’s Commissioner of Disaster Management Prasanna Kumar Venkatesh. He was speaking at GITAM University.
The customised, online decision making command centre will be called AP Critical Operations, Strategic Management and Incident Management (APCOSMIC). Any information relating to everything from flooding and fire, to accidents, will come to the command centre and then be conveyed to the concerned department.
Commencing from March and to be fully functional in a year, he says these systems are available n Europe and USA, reported The Hindu.
Venkatesh said that a lot has been learnt since Cyclone Hudhud, and pointed out how all essential services had been restored after Cyclone Titli hit in just 10 days, with everyone in Srikakulam district evacuated in a day.
He also said that a multi-hazard risk assessment model would be set up in a Geospatial lab along with training of volunteer youth in disaster risk management with funds from World Bank.
