Anti-CAA Protests: Major Violence Erupts In Delhi’s Seelampur As Mob Vandalises School Buses, Public Property

BySwarajya Staff

Fresh Protests have erupted and turned violent in North-east Delhi’s Seelampur area on Tuesday (17 December) afternoon against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

According to India Today, angry protesters flooded the streets and began pelting stones at police force in the Seelampur-Jaffrabad area. As per the report, the police force was heavily outnumbered against the violent mob.

The miscreants also vandalised a couple of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses along with some private vehicles.

However, the police officials shelled tear gas bullets to prevent the protesters from damaging public property, which resulted in streets cloaking in a haze.

In a video footage shared by India Today, shows policemen and several journalists can be seen running away to protect themselves from the heavy stone-pelting by the violent mob.

Another video shows the violent mob throwing pieces of bricks at school buses and other vehicles while holding the Indian flag in their hands.

The capital city has been on a boil since buses and police vehicles were set ablaze in an outbreak of violence near Jamia Millia Islamia University. This led to a brutal crackdown by the Delhi Police.

As many as five metro stations -- Seelampur on the Red Line and Welcome, Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur and Gokulpuri on the Pink Line -- have been closed.

Citizens have been advised to follow the Twitter handles of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (@OfficialDMRC) and the Delhi Traffic Police (@dtptraffic) to receive more travel advisories.
