After red beacons, the next in the checklist to end VIP culture could be ministers’ bungalows!
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has suggested building spacious multi-storey apartments to accommodate ministers and other lawmakers to save the trouble of finding bungalows for them.
He said this proposal is similar to a government plan to put all government offices under one roof. The flats could be between 6,000 and 8,000 sq feet in size for ministers, he said, adding that maintaining bungalows is a big issue.
Gadkari said political leaders must realise that they are the people’s servants in a democracy. “When people see us standing in a queue for security check at airports, they feel good. But unfortunately, we behave like malik,” he said.
