India on Thursday (25 July) deported as many as thirty Bangladeshi nationals, including three women, who had entered India illegally. The Bangladeshi nationals were sent back to the neighbouring country via the Sutarkandi border in Karimganj district of Assam, reports Hindustan Times.

According to the report, the Bangladeshi nationals were lodged in various detention centres in Assam. They had entered India without valid documents and were convicted by the local courts. All of them have completed their sentences.

“A total of 30 persons were sent back on Thursday. They were deported in batches of five persons after completion of formalities and handed over to Bangladesh authorities,” Karimganj’s superintendent of police Manavendra Dev Ray was quoted in the report as saying.

These Bangladeshis were kept in the detention camps inside jails in Cachar, Kokrajhar, Tejzpur, Jorhat and Goalpara districts of Assam.

As per the report, this is not the first instance of self-proclaimed Bangladeshi being deported from Assam. Earlier in July 2018, 52 Bangladeshi nationals were deported from the northeastern state and another 21 were sent back in January 2019. As many as 20 more were deported in May this year.
