Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s latest movie of the popular superhero franchise, has set a new opening day record collection for a Hollywood movie in India, Mint reports. The 22nd film of the franchise had collected Rs 52 crore when the movie released on Friday (26 April) in around 1,700 theatres across India.
Endgame now follows Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and superstar Rajnikanth’s 2.0, with the third highest opening day collections in the country overall, reveals Box Office India. The Russo brothers (Joe and Anthony Russo) directed film was shown in over 2,800 screens.
Moreover, riding on anticipation for the movie, Book My Show recorded the highest ever advance sales in the country, with 2.5 million tickets sold until Thursday (25 April). According to a report from The News Minute, online ticketing platform saw a peak of 18 tickets sold per second, even before the film released in India.
With a vast fan base in India, the studio went a step ahead and released the film’s dubbed version in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. They also brought in South Indian stars Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah and Rana Dagubatti to dub various versions and Music Director AR Rahman to compose an Endgame anthem.
The effort certainly seems to be paying as analysts expect the movie to take over from its predecessor Avengers: Infinity War (Rs. 94.30 crores) to take the position as the highest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in India with expectations of Rs 160-165 crores by Sunday.
