Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, took to twitter on Thursday (24 November) to share statistics on the aviation sector’s improving performance.
According to data shared by Sinha, the aviation sector served 86.7 lakh people in October 2016. In contrast, the sector had provided services to 70.3 lakh people in October 2015. The total number of air travellers between January and October 2016 increased to 813.7 lakh, from little over 660.6 lakh during the same time period in 2015.
- The sector observed 23.1 per cent monthly growth year-on-year.
- Among the chief causes of delay were late arrival of aircraft or crew from previous journeys (63 per cent) and Air Traffic Control (19 per cent).
- According to Sinha, on-time performance ( level of success of the service remaining on the published schedule) has improved.
- Passenger complaints, when compared to 2015, have declined. Most complaints were related to staff behaviour, in-flight problems and consumer services.
- Most flight cancellation in October 2016 were due to technical issues.
