Bald And The Not-So-Beautiful: After Groom Demands Dowry, Bride’s Kin Makes Sure He Loses His Hair 

They say marriage can make you bald, but asking for dowry can surely advance the process. In what was described as a extraordinary act of grit, a bride and her family tonsured the head of the groom in Lucknow's Khurram Nagar area after his family called off the wedding owing to unfulfilled dowry demands.

The groom, Abdul Kalam, was apparently unhappy with the bike (Bajaj Pulsar) that he received as dowry and demanded another bike along with a gold chain from the bride’s side.

When the bride’s family could not fulfill the exorbitant demands, the groom and his brother called off the wedding.

Following this, the family of the bride locked up the groom and his family. Things started getting out of hand when the groom’s head was tonsured along with some other members from the groom’s family.

Alarmed by the commotion around them, the people in the wedding venue called the police. Even though the police did not file any complaint against any of the two parties, it helped in resolving matters between the families and the wedding was finally called off.

As per reports by The New Indian Express, the family of the bride also claimed that they already offered the groom a washing machine, refrigerator, cooler, TV, and a bike when the wedding date was finalised.

Adding further light to the incident, the grandmother of the bride said, "They made these demands five days before the wedding. He refused to marry after we said we can't fulfil them. I don't know who tonsured his head."
