Bengaluru Metro’s Phase-II Underground Metro Stations To Be Smaller Than Phase-I’s Due To Higher Land Acquisition Cost

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is proposed to construct 12 underground metro stations along the 72.1 km phase II corridor. The corridor will run along Nagawara-Gottigere route.

The stations will be smaller than the UG (Under Ground) stations from Phase I, there are currently seven underground stations in Phase I, of which five of them are 272 metres long and 24 metres wide, and two are 240 metres long and 24 metres wide. The 12 new UG stations under phase II will be 210 metres long and 24 metres wide.

The decision to go with smaller stations can be that most of the land acquired in phase-I is government land while much of the land in phase II is private land.

Speaking to New Indian Express, an official from BMRCL said that “Despite the limited space within the stations, there will be no compromise on passenger amenities.” he also added that “To ensure that all amenities are in place, an open space present in the existing concourse area of underground stations will be closed and amenities will be shifted to that spot".

The proposed underground stations in phase II are Bamboo Bazaar, Pottery Road, Shivaji Nagar, MG Road, Vellara Junction, Dairy Circle, Mico Layout, Langford Junction, Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Arabic College and Nagawara
