The upcoming metro station in Bamboo Bazaar will be connected to the Cantonment Railway Station with a pedestrian subway that will be 275 metre-long. This will become the city’s longest pedestrian subway once complete. The subway is estimated to cost Rs 1,105.42 crore. The project includes structures that are underground measuring 2.88 km between the metro stations of Shivajinagar and Tannery Road.
According to the original plan, the metro station was supposed to be established opposite to Cantonment RS. This plan was supposed to save the body Rs 1,000 crore. Officials of BMRCL have cited given safety issues which are reportedly stopping them from constructing the station.
Deccan Herald quoted a source as saying, “The technical aspects of the tender are under evaluation stage, following which it may take about two months for evaluation of the financial bids. Details of the subway will be clear once the contract is awarded.”
Furthermore, Sanjeev Dyamannavar, an activist said, “This is the result of the protest against shifting of the Metro station and demand for integration between railway and Metro stations. BMRCL should follow this at KR Puram and Whitefield as well,” he said.
