In a big fillip for the border connectivity and infrastructure, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allocated Rs 12,434.9 crore for expediting the construction of 32 strategically important roads on the India-China border, reports Economic Times.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had been entrusted with the task of building 61 such roads and the work on 29 those has already been completed. However, the work on 32 roads which comprise the Phase-2 have witnessed delays due to multiple issues including security and environmental clearances and land acquisition delays.
While the work on Phase-2 has now been allocated financial support, the Phase-3 of building such strategic border roads is also progressing. Under phase-3 additional 50 such strategic roads have been proposed. Ministry of Defence has accorded the operational clearance for the building of the same to connect the existing border outposts.
