BigBasket has acquired the business enterprise unit of Kerala-based deep-tech startup Agrima Infotech, Economic Times (ET) reports.
The Tata Group-owned retailer’s self-checkout counters will now be equipped with Agrima’s consumer vision technology platform Psyight.
Psyight assists in recognising all Indian fruits and vegetables uniquely from an image without using any barcode.
The partnership aims to redefine the offline shopping experience in India.
He further added, “We look forward to working with (the)Agrima team to build solid innovation in the grocery space.”
BigBasket started off its inaugural technology-driven self-service physical store in Bengaluru in November 2021. The store was opened under the brand name ‘Fresho’.
BigBasket has plans to open about 200 physical outlets across India by the fiscal year 2023. Going ahead, the grocer will expand its store network to 800 such outlets by 2026.
