West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee (PTI)
Launching a war of words against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee lashed out at the former in a protest against the exclusion on 19 lakh individuals from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) held in Assam, reports The Indian Express.
Asserting that the BJP was playing with fire in the name of NRC, the incumbent Chief Minister (CM) of West Bengal, Banerjee said that she would not allow the exercise to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to be implemented in her state.
This comes after the ruling TMC and other opposition parties in West Bengal had last week passed a resolution in state assembly against the implementation of the NRC in the state. At the assembly, Banerjee had said, "The implementation of NRC is nothing but a political vendetta of the BJP-led Central government."
