Breaking The ‘Glass’ Ceiling’: Chinese Fibreglass Maker Jushi To Invest Rs 1,650 Crores In Maharashtra’s Talegaon

BySwarajya Staff

Jushi India Fibreglass, subsidiary of China’s Jushi Group, will begin work on its fibreglass manufacturing plant at Talegaon (Maharashtra) by next month (January 2018), reports The Hindu BusinessLine. The plant is expected to involve an investment of Rs 1,650 crore.

Jushi Group, the Chinese fibreglass maker, is a global leader fiberglass industry concerning both output and market share. Its upcoming plant in Maharashtra, which will be constructed in 15 months, will employ over 600 engineers and have a production capacity of one lakh tonnes. Out of this, Jushi plans to export around 30,000 tonnes to other nations.

It should be noted that the Indian government had imposed an anti-dumping duty of 47.15 per cent on the CIF (Cost Insurance and Freight) value of glass fibre imports from China. The duty will remain in force for five years, from September 2016 to August 2021.

Though Jushi had considered other countries like Malaysia to set up the plant, availability of raw material — such as silica, limestone and china clay — in Rajasthan and Gujarat, helped settle the location of the plant.

Glass is an inorganic product produced by melting a mixture of silica sand, soda ash, limestone, with desired metallic oxides that serve as colouring agents.
