Citing the prevailing conditions in the country caused by the devastating second wave of Covid-19, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021 to 10th October from the earlier date of 27 June.
“Due to the prevailing conditions caused by the novel CoronaVirus (COVID-19), the Union Public Service Commission has deferred the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021, which was scheduled to be held on 27th June, 2021. Now, this Examination will be held on 10th October, 2021,” UPSC said in a statement.
In 2019, Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, had said that 5,205 IAS positions were filled as against the total authorised strength of 6,699. Reportedly, big states like Maharashtra have sanctioned 415 positions, nearly 100 posts are still lying vacant.
