BSNL has announced its own Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) internet service for its broadband customers, reports Financial Express.
This is dubbed as a direct move to take on rivals like Airtel V-Fiber and Jio Giga-Fiber.
Named Bharat Fiber, the service is said to offer data worth 35 GB at a price of just Rs 1.1 per GB. BSNL has opened online bookings for the service in a bid to attract customers.
The new service aims to expand its broadband reach and bring internet to “every home” in the country. It is also in line with BSNL’s goal to offer internet services over fibre instead of cable.
The announcement comes at the heels of the state-run telecom operator announcing a 25 per cent cashback offer on its annual and half-yearly broadband plans.
BSNL’s rival Reliance Jio is all set to launch its FTTH offering JioGiga Fiber on a full scale in March 2019. BSNL is also planning investing heavily on Home Wi-Fi rollouts and FTTH to deliver ultra-high bandwidth and quality HD content to its customers at an attractive price.
