Central Vista Project: Prime Minister’s New Residence To Be Ready By December 2022

According to documents that were made public on the Parivesh portal of the Environment Ministry, the Prime Minister’s new residence, which is being built as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project will be ready by December 2022.

Also the Expert Appraisal Committee of the ministry has cleared the ten common official complex buildings, the new residential complex of the PM as well as its special protection group accommodation, the Vice-President’s enclave, the central conference centre.

Financial Express reports that the Vice President enclave will be completed by May 2022; the SPG by December 2022; the other seven office complexes will be completed between March 2024 and June 2025 while the central conference centre will be completed by December 2026.

The Rs 13,000-crore Central Vista project envisages a new triangular Parliament building, a common central secretariat with 11 administrative buildings to house all the government ministries.


On 10 December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the new Parliament building. The construction is expected to cost around Rs 971 crore.

The Central Vista project also involves redevelopment of Central Vista avenue, comprising Rajpath, leading from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. It includes building of underground passes, electrical and mechanical work, landscaping the green areas, large scale stone work.

The work on redevelopment of Central Vista Avenue is expected to be completed within a year.
