Akin to the model operational in the State of Himachal Pradesh, the Government of India is mulling to provide safeguards to the domiciles of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in land rights, government jobs and educational institutions, reports The Hindu.

The Government is said to be mulling a mandatory requirement of continuous stay in the region for a minimum of 15 years for one to become a valid applicant for Government jobs and admissions to educational institutions in the UT of J&K.

The Government is presently reported to be examining whether a notification in this regard will have to be issued by it, or by the administration of the UT of J&K.
