In a suicide bombing attack carried out by a minor in Afghanistan on Friday (12 July), five people had been killed while 40 had been left injured, reports CNN.
The officials have not yet ascertained how old the minor was, or why the attack was carried out. Though, the officials have successfully deciphered that the attack targeted a tribal leader and a local police chief at a wedding in Nagarhar province.
Soon after the attack, Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mojahid denied any involvement in it, while briefing the media.
The timing of the attack gains significance as it comes at a time when the closed doors peace talks reached a breakthrough on 9 July when a group of prominent Afghans, including government officials acting in a personal capacity had unofficially agreed on a roadmap with the Taliban as to how a peace deal to be achieved.
The agreement between the officials and Taliban came after months of on and off direct talks between the Taliban and the United States.
