Classes Too Cramped? CBSE To Crack Down On Schools For Ignoring Norms, 1700 Institutes Set To Lose Affiliation

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to crackdown on private schools that are ignoring the rule of having 40 students per section, Financial Express has reported. As part of the exercise, CBSE is planning to strip the institutions violating the norm of their affiliation along with fines upto Rs 500 per extra student.

CBSE’s Online Affiliated School Information System (OASIS), introduced in 2016 to combine school data on a digital platform, detected the difference of children being registered and class strength. It was then that the board decided to take this step to curb the violation of its norm. The last date for the registration of Class Ninth and Eleventh ends on 22 October, 2018.

The 1700 schools that have been identified have been sent a show-cause notice. They make up seven to eight per cent of all schools affiliated to CBSE, as reported by Financial Express.

The report further states that many of these extra students registered by the schools are taking private coaching in place of school education and they are marked absent in attendance.
