Congress leader and professional boxer Vijender Singh on Sunday (6 December) joined the farmer protests on the Delhi border by threatening to return his Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award if the centre does not withdraw the new farm laws.

Singh was quoted by ANI as terming the farm reforms as "black laws" as he spoke at the protest site at the Delhi-Haryana Singhu border.

He had joined the Congress in 2019 in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls and unsuccessfully contested from the South Delhi seat.

Incidentally, the ongoing farmer protests have resulted in former Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal returning his Padma Vibhushan and Rai Singh Dhaliwal, a retired commandant from Punjab Home Guards returning his President’s Medal.
