Coronavirus Outbreak: Air India Evacuates 323 Indians, 7 Maldivians From Wuhan; Maldives FM Expresses Gratitude

Government-owned Air India, who has been carrying out evacuation missions to bring back Indian citizens from the affected areas in China, brought back 323 Indian citizens and seven Maldivians from the Chinese city of Wuhan in second such operation undertaken in last 3 days, reports India Today.

The flight had taken off from Wuhan at 3:10 am (IST) on Sunday (2 February) and landed in New Delhi early morning.

Maldives's Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid took to twitter to express his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for helping the seven Maldivian nationals get out of China.

The flight carrying the first batch of Indians had landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Saturday from Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The Indian nationals who were evacuated from Wuhan will be quarantined in a specially prepared facility in Manesar near Delhi.

The facility will house approximately 300 students who will be observed for signs of infection for two weeks by a team of doctors and medical personnel.

Meanwhile, Kerala on Sunday reported the second case of coronavirus in the state. The first case in India was also reported in Kerala a few days ago.
